The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the most Christian-friendly government since the creation of Nigeria, citing the President’s inclusive governance and respect for religious diversity.
Akpabio made the assertion on Tuesday at the Jos Polo Ground during a reception rally organised to formally receive Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a goodwill message, Akpabio said the Tinubu administration had demonstrated fairness and equity in its dealings with Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation. A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, quoted the Senate President as saying that President Tinubu treats Christians and Muslims equally through his actions and policies.

Akpabio described the move as strategic, noting that it had taken Plateau State to what he called “the centre of Nigeria’s political gravity.” He assured the people of the state that the Federal Government would intensify efforts to address insecurity and improve the welfare of citizens.
“Let me assure you that insecurity will soon come to an end in Plateau. We will support your government in all sectors to better the lives of your people. We will not leave you alone,” Akpabio said.
He further noted that Mutfwang’s defection had effectively brought all states in the North Central geopolitical zone into the APC, describing the development as significant for national cohesion and political stability.
The Senate President also reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to support President Tinubu’s administration, including approving funds aimed at ending internal displacement across the country. According to him, government would do everything within its powers to protect Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs, and work towards shutting down all Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps nationwide.
In his remarks, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to party leaders and stakeholders who facilitated his defection, particularly Senator Akpabio, whom he praised for his role in the process.
Describing the event as historic, Mutfwang said the movement signified a collective decision by the people of Plateau State, who turned out in large numbers to publicly declare their support for the APC. He added that the defection marked the beginning of a renewed journey towards unity, peace and development, while also pledging support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
“We are beginning a journey that our forefathers long expected — a journey of unity for peace and development,” the governor said.
