The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a major operational breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and car snatcher and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Uyo, the state capital.
The arrest followed a distress call received by police operatives on routine night patrol at about 11:30 p.m. on January 20, 2026, along the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium axis.
The caller, a Bolt driver whose identity was withheld, reported that he had been attacked and dispossessed of his Toyota Corolla vehicle at gunpoint.
Although the suspects initially escaped with the vehicle, swift intelligence gathering by operatives of the Command led to the tracing of the stolen car to Nkwot Ikono Village in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
A suspect, identified as Sunday Okon, male, from Nna Enin Village in Uruan Local Government Area, was subsequently arrested in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla with registration number DKA 337 CB. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime.
The suspect is currently in police custody as discreet and intensive investigations continue to track down other members of the criminal gang and recover weapons used in the operation.
Commending the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to combat violent crime and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
The Police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information that can aid crime prevention and detection.
