The Akwa Ibom State Government has proposed a total budget of N1.39 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a 16 percent reduction from the revised 2025 budget of N1.65 trillion. The figures were contained in the state’s 2026 budget proposal presented by Governor Umo Eno.
According to the proposal, the government is prioritizing capital development in the coming year. Of the total outlay, N354.867 billion, representing 25 percent, is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while a significantly larger portion N1.035 trillion, or 75 percent, is dedicated to capital projects.
Government officials say the decision to allocate three-quarters of the total spending plan to capital expenditure is aimed at accelerating economic growth and stimulating activity across key sectors of the state.
A breakdown of the capital budget shows that N387.5 billion is set aside for roads and other infrastructure. The education sector is expected to receive N31.6 billion, while N136.1 billion has been proposed for health services, among other allocations.
The 2026 spending plan is expected to drive major development initiatives as the government seeks to consolidate ongoing projects and expand economic opportunities across the state.
