LAGOS, The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his longtime friend and fellow clergyman, Reverend Umai Ukpai, describing him as a “true general in the army of God” and “a man of unshakable faith.”
Pastor Adeboye made the remarks during a condolence visit to the residence of the late Reverend Ukpai earlier today. In a touching message, he reflected on the life and legacy of the renowned gospel minister, who he said lived a life of service, humility, and deep devotion to God.
“Reverend Umai Ukpai was not just a minister of the gospel; he was a true general in the army of our God, a man of unshakable faith, quiet strength, and uncommon humility,” Adeboye said. “His life was a living sermon, one that spoke louder than words a story of service, of love for God’s people, and of steadfast devotion to the Kingdom.”
The RCCG leader expressed his condolences to Ukpai’s widow, Pastor Philomena Ukpai, and the entire family, offering prayers for divine comfort and strength in their time of loss.
“May the Lord Himself wrap you in His unfailing love, comfort your hearts, and strengthen you in this valley of loss,” Adeboye prayed.
In an emotional conclusion, Pastor Adeboye said that his late friend had merely “changed address,” having gone from the field of spiritual battle to eternal rest in the presence of God.
“My friend has not died; he has only changed address—moving from the field of battle to the presence of his Commander-in-Chief. He is home. He is at rest. He is in the arms of God Almighty,” he said.
Reverend Umai Ukpai was widely respected for his ministry and decades of evangelistic work, which touched countless lives across Nigeria and beyond.
