At the Eket Council Secretariat, a comprehensive upgrade is underway, transforming the aging administrative hub into a modern, serene environment that promotes productivity and civic pride.
Culture, Commerce, and Community: Under Tommey’s leadership, the Eket Festival has evolved into a flagship cultural and economic event. The 2024 edition saw a 40% increase in local vendor participation and a 35% boost in small business revenue, signaling a revitalized local economy.
Vendors and artisans credit the well-organized festival for giving them a platform to thrive. “My sales tripled,” said Ekaette Udoh, a food vendor. Craftsman Etim Bassey noted, “The festival has given us exposure. Eket-made products are now in demand.”

Rather than delegate the task, Tommey personally visited her home, arranged emergency medical care, and covered all expenses. He later provided her with a monthly stipend for her upkeep.
“He didn’t send anyone,” a neighbor recounted. “He came himself. That’s why we say he feels our pain.”
As his administration moves into its second year, Tommey is setting sights on rural development. Plans are underway to upgrade key rural roads across Eket’s three geo-political zones, alongside the provision of potable water in at least 12 communities—projects expected to roll out in the dry season.
