Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has called on citizens to rise above political and social divisions, embrace forgiveness, and commit to building a united State. He made the call on Sunday, September 21, 2025, during the 38th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of Akwa Ibom’s creation, held at the International Christian Worship Centre, Uyo.
Governor Eno praised past leaders for their contributions to the State’s development, stressing that Akwa Ibom people must “remain united, avoid a fighting spirit, and bond together in love,” noting that “we have no other State outside Akwa Ibom.” He encouraged citizens to demonstrate patriotism, plan collectively, and avoid divisive actions, while also advocating voter registration as a civic duty.
The Governor reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while also seeking the people’s backing for his re-election in 2027. He announced plans for a Unity Concert on December 5, 2025, as part of the anniversary celebrations and directed the management of the International Christian Worship Centre to ensure completion of outstanding works on the facility.
Delivering the homily, Archbishop Emmah Isong underscored the importance of unity and respect for authority, warning that “pulling down the head can only bring down the structure. There can only be one head at a time.”
Goodwill messages poured in from political, religious, and community leaders. Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi hailed Eno as the “most gender-friendly Governor in the country,” citing his inclusive policies. On behalf of the National Assembly Caucus, Senator Ekong Sampson pledged continued cooperation with the State Government, commending the Governor’s performance.
The Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Dr. Christian Nyong, lauded the Governor’s partnership with the church under the theme “Stronger as One,” while Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Obong Emem Ekperikpe Ekpo, described Eno as a man of peace and rallied support for his second-term ambition, drawing a resounding “Yes” from the congregation.
Also speaking, Prelate Isaiah Isong expressed gratitude for the steady growth of the State and Eno’s leadership. The thanksgiving service was attended by former Governors, Deputy Governors, a former Minister, and other prominent citizens.
