Scriptural Reference: Mark 5:21–34
In our world today, fear has become a dominant force fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of sickness, fear of the unknown. Yet the Bible gives us a bold counterforce to fear: Faith.
The story of the woman with the issue of blood, as recorded in Mark 5:21–34, is one of Scripture’s most compelling examples of raw, determined faith in action. Here was a woman who had been bleeding for twelve agonizing years. She was nameless, isolated, and physically deteriorating. She had spent all her resources on doctors, yet her condition grew worse. By all human standards, her situation was hopeless.
But hope is not always found in human standards it is found in divine intervention.
When she heard about Jesus passing by, something ignited within her. It was not just curiosity. It was not desperation alone. It was faith. A kind of faith that defied fear, broke cultural taboos, and pressed through the crowd. Her words were simple but profound: “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” (Mark 5:28)
And so she did. She touched His cloak and instantly, the bleeding stopped. Her body confirmed what her spirit already believed. Healing had come.
Jesus felt the power leave Him. He could have ignored it. The disciples certainly didn’t think it was worth stopping over. But Jesus paused, looked around, and waited for the woman to come forward. And when she did, trembling and afraid, He said something remarkable:
“Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
Notice He didn’t say, “My garment has healed you.” Nor did He attribute it to chance. He recognized her faith — not her condition, her status, or her weakness as the trigger for her transformation.
Lessons for Us Today:
1. Faith Overcomes Obstacles:
The woman faced physical, social, and religious barriers. Yet faith enabled her to press through. Likewise, whatever barriers we face today — be they financial, emotional, or spiritual — faith in Christ gives us the boldness to overcome.
2. Faith Activates the Power of God:
Her healing wasn’t delayed. It was immediate. That is the power of personal, determined faith — it touches Heaven and brings a response.
3. Faith Demands Action:
She didn’t just believe in her heart. She moved. She touched. Faith is not passive; it is active. James 2:17 tells us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
4. Faith is Personal:
Jesus acknowledged her. He called her “Daughter.” That’s intimate. That’s covenant language. When we step out in faith, we don’t just receive healing — we receive relationship.
Final Thoughts:
You may be battling a private struggle. You may be drained, weary, or feeling unworthy. But like this woman, you are not invisible to God. Your faith, even if it feels small, is enough to touch the hem of His garment.
The question is — will you allow fear to paralyze you, or will you let faith propel you?
Let today be the day you choose Faith Over Fear.
