In a bold move poised to reshape Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a landmark initiative that will provide free petrol and diesel to major fuel marketers, distributors, manufacturers, telecom operators, aviation firms, and other large-scale consumers across the country.
The Lagos-based mega refinery, in a statement released on Sunday, disclosed that the programme will take off on August 15, 2025. As part of its rollout strategy, Dangote Refinery has acquired 4,000 brand-new tankers powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to facilitate nationwide distribution.
In addition to the free fuel offer, the refinery is introducing a credit facility for bulk purchasers. Buyers acquiring at least 500,000 litres of petrol or diesel will be eligible for an additional 500,000 litres on credit for two weeks, backed by a bank guarantee.
The refinery further revealed it has invested heavily in daughter booster stations and over 100 CNG tankers to support an expansive logistics network designed to ease product delivery and reduce energy costs.
“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the statement read.
The initiative, according to the company, aims to revive dormant petrol stations, stimulate the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), boost job creation, and enhance government revenue generation. It is also expected to improve fuel availability in rural and underserved areas, while bolstering investor confidence in the local energy market.
Describing the move as a milestone in the company’s mission to transform Nigeria’s energy architecture, the statement emphasized equitable energy access.
“Dangote Refinery is dedicated to ensuring that no place is left behind. Our goal is to provide equitable access to affordable fuel for all Nigerians, regardless of location, making energy more accessible and sustainable for everyone,” it concluded.
This groundbreaking initiative reaffirms Dangote’s strategic intent to drive inclusive growth, reduce reliance on imports, and make energy both available and affordable across the federation.
