The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, has called on leaders of Local Government Legislative Councils in Akwa Ibom State to foster unity and cooperation in advancing the Arise Agenda for effective governance.
Archibong made this appeal during an interactive session with the Forum of Leaders of Local Government Councils on Tuesday in Uyo, the state capital. He emphasized that council leaders play a crucial role in the success of the agenda, urging them to work in synergy with the state government, their respective executive councils, and other stakeholders.
“The engagement is aimed at addressing concerns, identifying challenges, and finding solutions that will enhance governance at the grassroots level,” Archibong stated. He assured the councillors that their requests would receive the necessary attention, while also reiterating the need for their unwavering support and loyalty to Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
“The success of Pastor Umo Eno is your own success,” he affirmed.
In their responses, leaders from each of the three senatorial districts—including Rt. Hon. Sunday Bassey (Uruan South 2), Hon. Ndifreke (Esit Eket), and Rt. Hon. Isonguyo Sunday (Ika)—expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to strengthening the local government system. They also commended Commissioner Archibong for initiating the engagement, describing it as a welcome and impactful development.
While pledging their continued support for the governor, the council leaders called for increased assistance from the state government to enhance service delivery at the local level.
The meeting was attended by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Edet Etukudo, alongside council leaders from all 31 local government areas of the state.
