Akwa United ended their winless streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Enyimba at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday. Goals from Ogunleye Olayemi and Uche Sabastine ensured the Promise Keepers claimed their first win in five games, much to the delight of their home fans.
Determined to turn their fortunes around, Akwa United started the match with intensity and were rewarded early when Olayemi found the back of the net. The hosts doubled their advantage through Sabastine, piling pressure on the reigning champions.
Enyimba, known for their resilience, fought back, with Issah Mohammed pulling one back for the People’s Elephant. However, despite a late surge from the visitors, Akwa United held on to secure a morale-boosting victory.
