UYO, The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime, leading to multiple arrests and significant recoveries of firearms, hard drugs, and stolen items. Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, disclosed these achievements at a press briefing held at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia.
Highlighting the Command’s efforts in the past week, CP Azare emphasized the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and upholding law and order. He presented a breakdown of key cases, including unlawful possession of firearms, cultism, drug trafficking, child theft, defilement, and armed robbery.
A 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, Eket, was arrested for bringing a locally made pistol to school. His father was also apprehended for investigation.
One Abasifreke Udo Thomas, alias “Udo Orlando” or “Olamide,” was arrested in a hotel for a shooting incident in December 2024. A locally made pistol was recovered.
Multiple arrests were made in connection with cult-related activities and violent crimes, including those of Uyobong Ekong Edet (24), Israel Daniel Bassey (19), and Nsikak Asuquo Okon (18), who were found with weapons and suspected bullet-resistant charms.
A self-confessed Vikings Confraternity member, Evans Andrew (32), was arrested with a fabricated pistol and live cartridges.
Two men, Sunday Akpan Stephen and Malachy Idorenyin Asukwo, were caught after attacking a company site in Ibiono Ibom.
Two suspected armed robbers, Richard Ekpenyong Udoh and Victor Aniefiok Usunguboho, were arrested in Abak with a locally made pistol.
Multiple drug dealers were arrested in separate operations, with large quantities of Indian hemp and ethanol mixtures seized.
Two women, Roseline Maurice and Eno Udoka, were arrested for stealing and selling a child for N200,000. The items purchased with the proceeds, including a refrigerator and television, were recovered.
Another case involved an attempted trafficking of two young girls to Cross River State for exploitative purposes. Two female suspects were arrested.
A 60-year-old man, Aniefiok Okon Edem, was arrested for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl in Nsit Ibom.
A self-acclaimed prophet, Elisha Ekop Etise, was apprehended for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman under the guise of a deliverance session.
Another suspect, Anietimfon Anietie Eyo, was arrested for raping a 17-year-old girl.
A suspect transporting live and expended cartridges to Cross River State was arrested, leading to the apprehension of an accomplice involved in refilling spent ammunition.
Two men, Richard Daniel and Samuel Monday, were arrested in Esit Eket for transporting ethanol used in producing fake and illicit alcoholic beverages.
CP Azare reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to making Akwa Ibom a safer place. He called on the public to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information.
“If you see something, say something, and the Command will do something,” he assured.
All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
